Written by SPS | Jan 31, 2020 9:49:00 PM

In this segment of The Clinical Minute, Liz Hillen, M.Ed., CPO, LPO, and SPS Clinical Consultant introduces the Townsend Thuasne Action Reliever knee brace.

Intro and Unboxing

The Townsend Thuasne Action Reliever is an easy-to-apply brace for mild to moderate medial or lateral osteoarthritis. The OA brace features a knit construction to provide an anatomical, breathable, and lightweight fit for the patient. Silicone beads inside the Action Reliever holds the brace in place. A three-point strapping system unburdens the medial and lateral knee joint to relieve pain and is held in place by straightforward, self-connecting magnetic buckles.

What Comes in the Box?

The Townsend Thuasne Action Reliever’s box displays a sizing chart so you can easily identify the appropriate size needed for the patient. Inside the box, you will find:
  • Instruction manual for Townsend Thuasne
  • Instruction manual for flexion extension stops
  • 10°, 20°, and 40° flexion extension stops
  • Allen wrench
  • 2 Condyle pads with adhesives

Contouring and Flexion Stops

A flexion stop can be inserted into the Action Reliever brace to limit the bending of the joint. The default extension stop in the malleable polycentric ROM joint is 0°, but a 10°, 20°, and 40° flexion stop can be found in the box.

Patient Fitting

In the above video, Liz demonstrates how the patient will don the Townsend Thuasne Action Reliever.
