Welcome to the final installment of this four-part series where I share my experience of aiding the loveable Brutus with the help from the amazing O&P technician students from St. Petersburg College School of Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology.

Part 3: Final Delivery of Custom Knee Orthosis for Bullmastiff With Ligament Injury

A few weeks after the successful delivery of Brutus’ Custom Knee Orthosis with the suspension sleeve, I received a text from my sister (Brutus’ mom). The text included videos of Brutus fetching his favorite ball and hiking in the mountains of Tennessee. My sister was pleased to share his great progress because, since his initial injury, he had no interest in playing. “He loves wearing his brace and gets excited to have it put on,” she said.

And, just in time for Winter! Brutus had enough time to acclimate to his new Custom Knee Orthosis with suspension sleeve a couple of months before the first winter snowstorm in Tennessee, where he lives with my sister and brother-in-law. He is wearing a similar suspension sleeve on his left side for compressive support and prophylaxis with activities.

If you look close enough at Brutus’ face in the picture above, you can see he is smiling and happy! Isn’t that the most important aspect of what we do as clinicians?
